Portion Guide

How much cake you need for your wedding depends much on how you will serve it. A standard portion size is 1” x 1” x 5'“. This size is often referred to as a finger slice or coffee slice and is how your cake will be cut if you are serving guests later in the evening after the wedding breakfast.

If you would like to serve your cake as dessert for your guests, a larger portion size is more appropriate. A dessert portion is double the size of a finger slice and measures at approximately 1” x 2” x 5”. This provides a generous slice of cake that you would expect from a dessert.

The portion sizes mentioned above are fitting for most sponge cakes. However, if one of your tiers is a traditional fruit cake, this type of cake is cut into finger slices. This is because fruit cake is much more dense than a sponge cake, and so less is required to satisfy you and your guests.

The design of your cake will affect the number of portions that your cake will provide. For example, if your cake design includes a 6” double barrel tier (two tiers of cake decorated as one) it would produce double the amount of servings as a single 6” tier. Instead of serving 12 dessert portions, it would serve 24.

This portion guide shows how many servings each tier provides and will help you to reduce any wastage. It is also a helpful resource estimate how much cake you will need if you would like to keep the top tier for yourselves which is what some couples like to do.

Pricing

Wedding Cakes

Weddings are expensive no matter how extravagant or intimate it is in size. It makes sense to want to know and understand how much the services you require will cost.

For wedding cakes it is difficult to offer a single, generic price as it is not as easy as “one size fits all”. The very nature of a bespoke wedding cake means that prices will vary depending on the cake flavours, it’s size, the level of decoration and additional serves (cake stand hire, mini desserts).

This is a guide as to what you can expect when ordering a cake.

The minimum spend for a 3 tier cake (semi-iced/ ganache/ buttercream) to serve 74 dessert portions/ 148 finger slices is £650 (not including delivery & setup).

A 3 tier fondant iced cake of the same size is £695.

A couple will often spend between £700 - £900 with additional decoration such as gold leaf, sugar flowers, stencilling and other details.

Mini Desserts

In addition to your wedding cake, you can also choose from a selection of mini desserts to bring variety and interest to your cake table.

Mini desserts also make great ‘thank you’ gifts for the special people in your life, those who couldn’t make it to the wedding, or even those who were an immense source of support throughout the wedding planning.

Whichever mini dessert you choose, it can be decorated to match your main cake and the overall theme as they are very versatile. Need some inspiration for mini desserts? Click the button below for ideas.

The mini desserts I offer are:

Sugar Cookies £3 - £3.50 each - depending on design (minimum order 12)

Buttercream Cupcakes £3.50 each (minimum order 12)

Fondant iced cupcakes £4 each (minimum order 12)

Geometric Chocolate Hearts £3.50 each (minimum order 6)

Cakesicles £4 (minimum order 6)

Bianca was lovely to work with and answered all of our questions quickly and easily. She created the cake exactly as I’d imagined and it tasted great too!
